PAYING ITS WAY
NEW ZEALAND CLUB IN CAIRO. ALL PATRIOTIC ADVANCES REPAID. (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.) CAIRO, July 3. The New Zealand Club in Cairo, which was originally financed by the National Patriotic Fund Board, is now self-supporting, all the money provided by the board having been repaid. For the past six months, receipts from the sale of goods amounted to £310,976, the profits averaging £3724 a month. A reserve has been set aside for the res-, toration of the building to its original condition when it ceases to be used as a club. The policy of the club is to show a profit on tobacco, cigarettes, beer and merchandise and a loss on meals in the men’s dining-room, where thousands of meals are served daily at the lowest prices in Cairo. During the past few weeks, the restaurant takings were £5500, representing 80,000 meals. Other purchases include cigarettes and merchandise, £BOOO, lounge and buffets, £4500, silk stockings £6500, and hot water bottles £l5OO.
