The death occurred in Wellington recently of Miss Margaret Trask, who was prominent in nursing circles both in Wellington and Palmerston North. Miss Trask will be remembered for her work during the Great War, when she performed yeoman service, nursing in Egypt, India, Mesopotamia, and for 18 months on the hospital ship Divana and at Trentham Hospital. Miss Margaret Fraser, a New Zealander, has been appointed by the New South Wales Public Service Board as organising secretary of the United Hospitals Auxiliaries, a Sydney cablegram reports. After leaving New Zealand, Miss Fraser went to London, and since coming to Australia has been, prominently engagd in women’s journalism. In November, 1939, she was appointed the first woman publicity censor in Australia, and has been attached to the Censorship Department, since that date. The death occurred in Auckland this week of Mr William Maltby Jackson, at the age of 87. Mr Jackson was well known throughout New Zealand as a radio commentator, horticulturist, and rifle shot. He was born in Nottingham, and came to New Zealand in 1857 in the ship Ivanhoe. During the voyage out about 200 immigrants, including his father and brother, died of a mysterious fever. In 1876 Mr Jackson joined the Wellington City Rifles and was their rifle champion for 13 years and shooting captain for 30 years. In 1910 he organised the Suburbs Defence Rifle Club, and the club won the ‘■Daily Mail” Empire competition in 1911 under his supervision. Senior Constable Bert Spencer Morrison, of the New Zealand Police Force, died at the Home of Compassion Hospital, Wellington, on Wednesday, and was buried yesterday afternoon. Constable Morrison, who was 62 years of age, will be best remembered as the traffic officer in charge of the Hutt Road, from 10 to 15 years ago, when the rates of speed permissible on that road were much more restricted than at present. Constable Morrison, who had a high-speed motor-cycle for the more efficient performance of his duties, became a very real controller of traffic, and discharged his duties without fear or favour, often in the face of criticism. When the Government at length took over the road as a main highway Constable Morrison was engaged, for the most part, in office duties, till overtaken by illness.
