AIRMAN & SOLDIER

MASTERTON BOYS MEET IN CAIRO. In a letter written to his mother, who resides in Fleet Street, Corporal T. B. Smith, formerly of Masterton and now of the Middle East Forces, refers to a meeting he had in Cairo with Squadron Leader Rex Daniell, also of Masterton. Both attended the Wairarapa College and were in the same form. Rex Daniell, states the letter, served in England for a year on bombers, and was there during the Battle of Britain. Since then he has served in Malta, India. North Africa and Egypt. Corporal Smith said his old school friend had done very well for himself, as he was only 23 years of age. He referred also to a flight he took with Rex Daniell in a twin-engined Lockheed Hudson bomber. From the air the Nile delta looked a place of beauty.
