"DURANGO KID." “Durango Kid” and “North From the Lone Star,” will be finally shown tonight. “A YANK IN THE R.A.F.” For thrills and exciting action, “A Yank in the R.A.F.,” which will be shown tomorrow at the State Theatre, is an excellent picture. Tyrone Power gives a fine performance as the bored Yank, and Betty Grable, in her first dramatic role, shows that she is tops as an actress. “A Yank in the R.A.F.” is an absorbing picturisation of England’s fliers at work —and at play. The story follows Tyrone, an American flyer in Britain who joins the R.A.F. to get some action. Bored by the instructions he must take and the routine of his duties, he does not get along well with his fellow pilots or his commanding officer, played by John Sutton. And his romance with Betty Grable, an American dancer in London, receives a setback when Sutton proposes marriage to her. Actual combat pictures, filmed by the R.A.F. in action show the thrilling dog fights in the air, dive bombers dropping their deadly loads and add to the thrills of the film. Reginald Gardiner and Gladys Cooper are also featured. The programme on Sunday night, commencing at 8.15 o’clock, will be headed by the thrilling drama, “Sherlock Holmes.” •
