GREYTOWN

METHODIST GUILD MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Methodist Guild was held yesterday at the home of Mrs Farley, there being a good attendance. Mrs Ross gave two short addresses, “Dark Moods” and “A Mother’s Prayer.” Mrs Farley reported on the Sunshine Committee and was appointed sick visitor until the next meeting. Mrs E. Haigh offered the use of her home for the next meeting, at which there would be a bring and buy stall. Mrs Gray was appointed the Open Door secretary in place of Miss L. Gray. Mrs Farley gave the Thought for the month, and Mrs Gray offered to bring the Thought for the next meeting. A warm welcome was given Miss Gray. ■ It was decided to make an investment in the Liberty Loan. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Farley for her hospitality.

PRESBYTERIAN GUILD PADDY’S MARKET TO BE HELD. The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild was held recently, when Mrs A. Johnson presided over a good attendance of members. A new member was welcomed. Mrs A. Johnson thanked all those who had made the gathering the success it was. It was decided to hold a “Paddy’s Market” on October 1, instead of the usual garden party. All members expressed their willingness to help on the stalls. Mrs McLeod offered to conduct a stall of old and new goods. The annual meeting is to be held on July 22. Patriotic Shop Day. The Greytown Citizens’ Patriotic Committee will hold a shop day on Friday. The proceeds will be used for the soldiers’, sailors’ and airmen’s parcels. Those who are willing to donate goods are asked to send same to the Crown Theatre on Friday morning. Returned Services’ Association. At a meeting of the Greytown branch of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association Committee there were present: Miss Higginson, Messrs S. Shedden, A. G. Nisbet, W. Hutchings, R, O’Neale, R. Dyson, F. Clements and J. W. Herod. The secretary reported that 64 members were financial. This was considered very satisfactory, as only three months of the present year had gone. It was reported that the president (Mr Brass) and the secretary (Mr A. E. Prentice), of Masterton, would address the local branch on July 15. Plans have now been made to help in vegetable production, and to assist in this the local branch is arranging to provide working bees and dig the garden plots for the wives of soldiers now overseas.

The annual dance is to be held on July 19, and Udy’s orchestra has been engaged to supply the music.
