PLAY READING

LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY PRESENTATION. “THE COMPOSITE MAN.” Members of the Masterton Little Theatre Society gave a most successful reading last night of a three-act comedy, ‘'The Composite Man,” by Ronald Jeans. All the parts were adequately taken, many with exceptional ability. Outstanding performances were given, by Mesdames S. M. Cresswell and J. A. Kennedy, and by Messrs J. A. Kennedy and A. W. Don, and Leading Aircraftman C. Beavis. Mr John Cunningham had heavy duties, which he carried out very satisfactorily. Owing to a deficiency in the number of books available, there were many doublings of parts, but the skill of the readers avoided any confusion among the audience. The attendance was such that the Society’s hall was somewhat overcrowded. The play itself is an excellent comedy, which should prove admirable for presentation as a Major performance. The parts were taken as follow: — Charlotte Transonic and Miss Partridge, Mrs J. A. Kennedy; Carter (Mrs Transome's maid) and Miss Octavius, Miss Joan Gemmell; Humphrey Makin, Mr A. W. Don; Andrew Young. Mr J. G. Heasley; Audrey Kent, Mrs S. M. Cresswell; Gordon Seep, L. A/c. C. Beavis; Levinson, Mr M. M. Simpson; Nicholas Brown, Mr J. A. Kennedy; Albert Eagle, Mr G.. W. Morice; Gloria Sefton-Carnaby, Miss I. Stewart; Mr Broadbent (of the •’Morning News”) and Mr Bright (the “Gaumont British” man), Mr Evan Jaine; Mr Meyerbaum and old gentleman (act 3), Mr H. H. Daniell; page boy (act 2, scene 3), aesthetic youth (act 2, scene 2), his woman companion, Smith (“Gaumont” assistant), commissionaire, a “Times” reporter and stage directions, Mr John Cunningham.
