AXIS WAR CRIMINALS
ASSURANCE OF PUNISHMENT. GIVEN IN ALLIED BROADCAST. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 6. A broadcast from Cairo warned the Germans and Italians against reprisals against the people of Crete for the raid by British troops. “The Allied Governments have signed a joint declaration that war crimes will be punished, and steps are being taken to implement this decision,” it was stated. “No criminal will escape on the pretence that he obeyed superior orders. You can no longer delude yourselves with hopes of an Axis victory or even of a negotiated peace. If you wish to escape punishment, commit no crimes.”
