In the Mediterranean air offensive, 50 Liberators joined Flying Fortresses in a big attack on Siciliiui airfields. It was the fifth raid in three days. Heavy bombs and incendiaries were dropped and added to the destruction of buildings and hangars. Aircraft mi the ground were also hit. In four days of bombing of Sicilian targets, 11C enemy aircraft have been destroyed in combat. The Allied losses for the four days are 39 planes. Axis fighter opposition, which was very strong on Monday, had virtually ceased yesterday. The main challenge came from anti-aircraft guns. Mitchell medium-bombers made repeated attacks yesterday on airfields in Southern Sicily. Only one small group of enemy fighters was seen and they were drven off by the escorting fighters.
