TOWN HALL “JOHNNY EAGER.” Tonight’s programme will be headed by the brilliant drama. “Johnny Eager, featuring Robert Taylor and Lana Turner.
On the eve of the execution, President Roosevelt commuted to life imprisonment the death sentence on Max Stephan, convicted of treason in aiding a German prisoner who escaped from Canada. Resident Roosevelt said Stephan’s treason was not a preconceived plan. Therefore it was a lesser offence than that of the saboteurs who landed from a German submarine.
