WOMEN’S DIVISION £6OO INVESTED IN LIBERTY LOAN. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mrs L. R. Maitland (president) presided over the monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held in the Masonic Hall yesterday. The president referred in feeling terms to the death of Mrs E. W. Allen, a former president. Members stood in silence for . a few moments as a mark of respect to the memory of deceased. Arrangements were finalised for the debate with a team of Young Farmer Club members which will be held in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday next. It was reported that the Garden Circle had decided to go into recess for the duration of the war. It was decided to include a vegetable section in the monthly competitions. Mrs H. Hodder gave her report on tire activities of the woollen unit of the Union for June, and said that 22 parcels had been given to service men going overseas. Mr D. L. Taverner (Mayor) and the organiser (Mr G. S. George) addressed members regarding til? Liberty Loan. It was unanimously decided to invest the whole of the Rest Room Fund, some £6OO. in the loan. The Garden Circle also subscribed £5 for the same purpose. It was resolved to hold another dance on July 17 in the State Theatre, Carterton. Competitions were won as under: — Flowers: Mrs Couper, 1. Shrubs: Mrs Couper, 1; Mrs H. Abbott. 2. Mrs Freer was the winner of the “wandering shilling.” ■ Heavy Frost. The heaviest frost of the winter was experienced this morning, the countryside being covered in a white mantle. REGENT THEATRE “WHO DONE IT.” One of the outstanding comedies of tne year. “Who Done It.” featuring Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, will be shown tonight.
