STRONG GOVERNMENT

NEEDED IN AUSTRALIA PARTY LEADERS EXCHANGE COMPLIMENTS. CALL MADE ON ELECTORS. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association. —Copyright) ' " SYDNEY, July 2. “It is my prayer that the people of this country will judge not only patriotically but also wisely in whatever choice they make,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Curtin, in closing Australia’s sixteenth Federal Parliament. “I hope the new Government will be so strong that it will be able to administer the affairs of this nation with decision. A great task lies before us. I pray that victory will come speed ily.” The Prime Minister paid a tribute to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Fadden, who, he said, had always treated, him with “the greatest consideration and immeasurable generosity.” Mr Fadden replied that Mr Curtin’s position as Prime Minister had been “most onerous, responsible and exacting.” That the position had been unsatisfactory was due to the electors themselves, and at the "forthcoming elections it was to be hoped the electors would give a definite mandate to a Government that would have sufficient strength to carry it out.
