BOMBS ON GERMANY

GREAT INCREASE DURING JUNE RUHR ALONE GETS 10,COO TONS. EFFECTS ON RIVER & RAIL TRANSPORT. LONDON, July 2. During June the R.A.F. dropped 15,000 tons of bombs on Germany, a big increase over the tonnage dropped in May. Two-thirds of the June total was concentrated on seven great night raids on the Ruhr, in which 10,000 tons of bombs were dropped. Another effect of air attacks was to stop the important barge traffic up the Rhine. Traffic down the Rhine was also stopped for five days.

One result of attacks on railways was to reduce to a third the transport of coal from Germany to Italy.
