FEATHERSTON
WEDDING VILES—WATSON. (“Times-Age” Special.) A wedding of local interest took place recently' at St. John’s Church, Featherston, when Myra Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs R. F. Watson, was married to Richard John, youngest son of Mrs E. Viles. The service was.conducted by the Rev. J. R Higgs, and Mrs Arch Clark presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a charming gown of magnolia satin cut on classical lines. Her beautiful tulle embroidered veil, which was lent by' a friend, was worn over the face and held in place by a halo of pearls She carried a bouquet of orchids, chrysanthemums, roses and maidenhair fern. The bride’s attendants were Miss Ada Whittaker, Hastings (cousin of the bride), who wore cyclamen taffeta, and Miss Alice Johnson, who was frocked in mauve taffeta. Both maids carried bouquets of winter roses and chrysanthemums to tone. The bridegroom’s gift to the bridesmaids were cheques. Mr Roderick McDonald, of Palmerston North, capably carried out the duties of best man and Mr Alex Burt was groomsman.
At the reception held in the Masonic Hall, Mrs Watson received the guests wearing a navy blue frock and accessories, with fur coat and'shoulder spray to tone. She was assisted by Mrs Viles, who wore a pretty dress with wine coat and hat and shoulder spray to tone.
The tables were decorated by Mrs F. Alexander with Iceland poppies. Private and Mrs Viles later left for the north, the bride wearing a teal green frock with tan accessories and fur coat. They received many beautiful gifts including several cheques. SOCIAL GATHERING MR AND MRS HAYES FAREWELLED There was a very large attendance at the Town Hall on Monday night, when a farewell gathering and dance was tendered tp Mr and Mrs F. S. Hayes by the Home and School Association and the School Committee. Vocal items were given by Mesdames Houston, Mclvor, Misses M. Saunders, O‘ Clapshaw, B. Algie, G. and T. Jury, A. Cassidy, N. Benton ,Messrs S. Hun-t ter and F. Clarke. The music for the dancing was supplied by the Pirinoa Orchestra, extras being played by an orchestra.
Mr Chas. Buck: was M.C. Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr Sturgess and Miss Midgley, and Miss Cole and partner. The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, spoke on behalf of citizens, Mr Kilsby on behalf of the Home and School Associate and the school staff.
Mr Holland, chairman of the school committee, made a presentation to Mr Hayes, who suitably replied. The supper arrangements were in charge of Mrs Saunders.
Mr and Mrs Hayes, who have been in the district for the past five years, left today for Wellington, where Mr Hayes will take up the position of headmaster at Clyde Quay School. Yesterday morning Mr Hayes was entertained and made a presentation by the staff and pupils of the Featherston School. Personal. Mr and Mrs A. Clapshaw, Featherston, announce the engagement of their, second daughter, Molly Elizabeth, to Alan Gordon, R.N.Z.A.F.. youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. H. Earl, Wellington. COSY THEATRE “HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY.” Tonight there will be presented ■ the brilliant drama, “How Green Was My Valley,” featuring Walter Pidgeon. Maureen O’Hara, Donald Crisp, and Sara Allgood.
