Two unescorted Bostons of the R.A.F. Bomber Command made a low level daylight attack on the Royal Dutch blast furnaces and steel works at Velsen, near Ijmuiden. A picture taken as one of the Bostons swooped down over the heart of the target area shows a bomb burst on the railway tracks by a coke-oven plant.
