WHALING ACCIDENT

HARPOON-GUNNER FATALLY INJURED. SKULL FRACTURED BY SHELL CASE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM,, This Day. A harpoon-gunner in the Tory Channel whaling fleet, Mr John Donald Huntley, a married man aged 31, resident in Picton, died in hospital on Saturday night as a result of head injuries received in Cook Strait on Friday afternoon.

Mr Huntley was firing at the fourth whale of a successful day when a shell case flew back, striking him on the forehead, fracturing his skull. He was rushed to Picton in a fast whale-chaser.
