GOOD COMPETITION

FOR FAT SHEEP. PRICES AT CARTERTON SALE. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday:—There was a bigger yarding than usual of fat sheep and these met with good competition. Prime ewes made up to 21s. Store sheep sold at recent rates. Included in the cattle entry was Mr Barton's dairy herd. The cows were not in the best of condition, but nevertheless met with a good sale, the top price being £l2. Other cattle sold well particularly fat and forward cows. Pigs made late rates. Prices were as follow:—

Sheep: Fat wethers. 28s; fat b.f’s., 225, 255, 27s lid; forward wethers, 225; fat ewes, 18s 3d, 20s 3d, 21s; forward ewes, 14s 8d; fat hoggets, 22s Id, 22s 9d, 235, 245, 24s 7d to 25s lid; light fat hoggets, 17s 3d to 18s; m.a. ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 14s; b.f. hoggets, 12s, 13s 9d to 14s; small b.f. hoggets, 7s 5d to 8s 9d; small wether hoggets, 5s 8d; small ewe hoggets, 6s; small b.f. 2-ths., 13s. Pigs: Forward stores, £2 10s, £2 15s to £2 17s; stores, 265, 27s to 31s; slips, 15s, 19s io 225; weaners, 7s, 9s to Ils. Cattle: Jersey cross cows on drop, £7, £lO 15s to £l2 10s: Jersey-Ayrshire cross cows, due August, £8 to £l2; Jersey-Ayr-shire cross cows, due September. £6 to £7 15s; Jersey-Ayrshire cross cows, late calvers, £4 to £5 15s; fat cows, £5 to £6; forward cows, £3 12s 6d to £4 15s; store cows, £2 7s 6d to £3 ss; cull cows, 20s to 37s 6d.
