This Day. “The people of New Zealand will be glad to learn.” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fj* ser, last evening, “that it has been possible, subject always, of course, to chJß*' ing exigencies of the war situation, ■’ for Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg. V.C., to pay brief visits to centres both in the South and North Islands. Civic receptions will be accorded him on Monday evening next at Christchurch, at Invercargill on Tuesday evening, and at Dunedin on Wednesday evening. “On the return journey from Invercargill he will go through to Dunedin by train, and at scheduled stops where time allows, will informally meet the local people on the platform. On Thursday of next week the General will journey from Dunedin to Christchurch by the express, and the same procedure as between Invercargill and Dunedin will be observed at scheduled stops. He will arrive back in Wellington, on Friday morning, July 2. and will be engaged in consultations with the Government and Service authorities. In the afternoon of Sunday, July 4, General Freyberg will fly to New Plymouth, where he will stay overnight. Arrangements are being made for a brief civic welcome in the morning of Monday, July 5. after which the General will proceed by rail-car to Palmerston North, calling at Wanganui en route, and at stopping stations along the line meet the people on the station platforms. His itinerary on Tuesday will be Palmerston North to Masterton by air, and from Masterton to Napier by rail-car, Avith station stops. On Wednesday he will proceed by air from Napier to Rotorua, via Gisborne, arriving at Rotorua either in time for lunch or in the early afternoon. His stay at Rotorua will extent till Friday morning. July 8. when he will proceed overland to Auckland. A full detailed itinerary for the information of all the people concerned in each district will be issued later.

“It Avill be seen from this outline,” continued the Prime Minister, “that every effort has been made in the time at Sir Bernard Freyberg’s disposal, for him to visit or pass through as many localities as possible in both Islands. None more than the Government and General Freyberg himself regret the impossibility of an even more comprehensive tour. In particular, it is a matter of very great regret that it has been found impossible for him to visit the AVest Coast, Nelson. Marlborough. King Country. Bay of Plenty or North Auckland, but I feel sure that the people of those districts will realise that their exclusion from his itinerary was rendered inevitable by the time factor.”
