JAPANESE BOMBER
SHOT DOWN BY AMERICANS. ATTACKS ON VARIOUS ENEMY BASES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) RUGBY, Juno 22. The American Navy Department states: “On June 20 three Wildcat fighters intercepted and shot down a Mitsubishi bomber north of Florida Island. Liberators attacked Japanese positions at Keita on Bougainville Island and on the Kahili area The results were not observed. Yesterday Dauntless Avengers, escorted by Wildcats, attacked Japanese installations at Munda, in New Georgia Island. Hits were scored on anti-aircraft positions and several were silenced.”
