Mrs Hugh Beetham, Lansdowne, is visiting Auckland. Mr and Mrs N. Moar, of Pohangina, are on a visit to Masterton.

Miss Guild, of Cornwall Street, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Temuka.

Mrs Giikison, Invercargill, is staying with her daughter, Mrs T. L. Parr, Opaki Road, Masterton. Mr R. H. Nimmo has been re-elected for his twelfth term as president of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. Mr A. C. St. Paul, who has been manager of the Bank of Australasia in Dunedin for the past three years and a half, is to retire on superannuation aftei' completing 39 years’ service. Mr P. Coyle was, at the annual meeting of the Wellington Employers’ Association yesterday, elected unopposed as president.

Miss Betty Webster, Auckland, has been admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court. Miss Webster, who is only 21, was awarded a senior university scholarship in law, a rare distinction for a woman.

Private F. G. Graham, a popular member of the executive of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association was made a presentation by the chairman, Mr G. Daubney at a morning tea gathering in Masterton yesterday. Mr Graham suitably acknowledged the gift and the kind remarks expressed by Mr Daubney.

Councillor G. D. Wilson, chairman of the Park, Hall, Cemetery and Band Committee, has been granted three months’ leave by the Masterton Borough Council on account of ill-health. It was decided to send Councillor Wilson a letter expressing the wish that he will have a speedy return to health. Reference was also made to the absence on account of ill-health of the deputyMayor, Councillor W. White.

Presentations were made by members of the Masterton Optimist- Club last night to the Rev. H. Taepa, who is shortly leaving the district, and to Mr C. W. Gaze, general secretary of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. Reference was made to Mr Taepa’s splendid service to the club as padre and it was stated that his helpful influence had been a benefit to club members serving overseas. Mr Taepa returned thanks. Tribute was paid to Mr Gaze's work for the Masterton Y.M.C.A. Mr Gaze expressed his thanks.
