ACOUSTIC MINE
ONE OF HITLER’S SECRET WEAPONS OVERCOME VERY QUICKLY. REVELATION BY BRITISH MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1 p.m.) LONDON, June 21. “When the story is revealed of how the acoustic mine, which was one of Hitler's secret weapons, was overcome you will be highly amused,” said the Minister of Pensions, Sir Walter Womersley. “All I can say is that it was dealt with in two days. Our remedy against the weapon, which took the Germans eight years' to develop and manufacture, is really ludicrously simple. The point is that rit works.” Paying a tribute to the crews of the mine-sweepers, Sir Walter Womersley said German' planes, on one occasion, dropped 230 mines in one night around the British coast and stopped all shipping. However, by 2 p.m. next day, the mine-sweepers had cleared the fields and shipping restarted.
