BOROUGH AFFAIRS

GREYTOWN COUNCIL THEFT OF VASES AND WREATHS. FROM CEMETERY. KIOSK AT PARK DAMAGED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Grey-, town Borough Council was held last night, there being present: The Mayor (Mr A. V/. Horton), Councillors W. A. Tate, I. Blissett, A. Stuart, E. Balfour, G. Eagar, F. Wood, H. C. Trotman and H. J. Farley.

The Mayor welcomed Councillor Stuart who had been ill for some time.

A vote of sympathy was passed with the of the late Mr W. H. Day, who had served as a councillor for many years.

The Mayor’s action in agreeing to the fitting of standard couplings on the Fire Brigade hose was confirmed by the Council. The cost to the Council is £25.

The manager of the Greytown Picture Co., wrote asking permission to screen pictures on Christmas Day. The request was granted. The Superintendent of the Fire Brigade wrote, asking the Council to apply to the National Service Department for a new alarm siren, the brigade being agreeable to pay the cost. It was decided to do as requested.

Complaint was made that vases and glass wreaths at the cemetery were being stolen and broken. It was decided to place the matter in the hands of the police. The Park Committee reported that the kiosk at the Park had been damaged, and it was decided to refer the matter to the police. The Borough Foreman reported that all the water-races had been cleaned.

Councillor Eagar reported that large mobs of cattle and sheep were using the road in front of the hospital instead of the road at the rear. It was decided to leave the matter to the Town Clerk to deal with.

It was decided to paint white the curbing leading to the Hospital.
