Successful Hare Drive.
Members of the Wairarapa Coursing Club held a successful hare drive yesterday. Six hares were netted and should be in good racing condition for the next week’s coursing. Odd Fellows Dance. The Masterton Odd Fellows Lodge held a successful dance in the Masonic Hall on Saturday night There was a good attendance and the music was supplied by Mr J. Barnes’s orchestra. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Bro B. J. Seddon and a Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Miss Savage and Sergeant Robinson. Supper was served under the supervision of Sisters Brady and Rickards. Women’s Institute. The Kaituna-Fernridge Women’s Institute met at Mrs Keir’s home, Lansdowne, Mrs Keir- presiding over a fair attendance of members. Mrs Laing gave a demonstration on making workboxes, for which she was thanked. Miss O. lorns was the winner of a competition, the Institute funds benefiting by £3 4s. A flower competition resulted: Mrs J. Shaw, 1; Mrs D. Cooper, 2. Afternoon tea was handed round by the hostess, Mrs Keir and helpers.
Gift Parcels Appreciated. Writing to relatives in the district, Private Hector Manihera, Junr., of Papawai, a member of the Maori Battalion ‘overseas, expresses his appreciation of the parcel sent by the Masterton Maori committee. He said the parcel contained everything that one could think of and was a “beauty.” The karingo (dried seaweed) was particularly welcome. Reference was also made by the writer to the Patriotic parcel sent through the Mayor of Greytown, Mr A. W. Horton.
