LANCASTER ON TOUR
FIRST DIRECT- FLIGHT TO MELBOURNE.

Completing the first direct flight from New Zealand to Melbourne, the giant Lancaster bomber landed at an aerodrome here yesterday eight hours 29 minutes after having left Auckland. The plane flew against a 35 miles an hour head wind.
On the shorter flight from Australia to Wellington the time was seven hours 37 minutes.
On the return trip the bomber’s passengers were Lord Burghley, the British aircraft production official? Group Captain Wincott, R.A.F., Group Captain Wilkes, New Zealand liaison officer, and Group Captain Thomas, R.A.A.F. The plane will stay in Melbourne for some time and will then be flown over all the Australian capital cities and thickly populated areas.
