JUNIOR RED CROSS
• PRISONERS’ NEXT-OF-KIN ENTERTAINED. GATHERING AT SOLWAY COLLEGE. On Saturday afternoon the next kin of prisoners of war were the guests of Miss Mcßae and the Solway College Junior Red Cross Society at Solway College. The guests were welcomed by Miss Gay Nimmo, president of the Solway College Junior Red Cross Society,: and Mrs G. G. Tolhurst introduced -the speaker, Mr J .Abel, Prisoner of War Department, Wellington, who gave, a short talk on all that was being done for New Zealand prisoners of war by the British, New Zealand and International Red Cross. At the conclusion of his address, many questions were asked. A hearty vote of thanks to the speakei- was proposed by Mr Norman Lee and carried by acclamation.
During the afternoon a delightful musical programme was rendered by 1 the Aeolian Sextet, accompanied by Miss McDonald, and a song solo, two short sketches and a recitation were also given by the girls. Afternoon tea was served.
On behalf of the relatives of prisoners of war, Mr C. Oliver thanked Miss Mcßae and the Junior Red Cross for the interesting and pleasant afternoon. Among those present were Mr Lee, Miss Elliot, Mrs Abel, Mrs C. Gawith, Mr and Mrs G. T. Thomas, Mrs M.« F. Webster, Mr and Mrs Dean, Mrs W. Wilson, Mrs Burns, Mrs Tolhurst, Mr and Mrs K. Morris, Mr and Mrs Wallis, Mrs Newland, Mr and Mrs Sayer, Mr Clement, Mrs and Miss O’Connor, Mrs Rosson, Mrs F. Daniell, Mrs Towns, Mrs C. C. Cook, Mrs H. H. Daniell, Mrs Way, Mrs Studholme, Mr and Mrs F. Hewitt, Mr and Mrs J. Barnes, Mrs Dorset, Miss A. Whyte, Mr and Mrs Milne, Mrs and Miss McNamara, Mr Kjar, Mrs and Miss Faulknor and Pilot Officer Faulknor, Pte. J. Edwards and Pte. J. Ritchie, and Mesdames Hastie, Corlett, Hodder, Hurndell and Anaru, of Carterton, Mrs J. O. Thompson, Mrs H. H. Pavitt, Mrs Hopkins, Miss Madely, Mrs Mason (Carterton), Mr and Mrs Milne, Mrs Tooby and others.
