POWER ALCOHOL
PRODUCTION IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY. June 16. The first of three plants established by the Commonwealth Government to produce power alcohol from wheat will be in production before the end of the year. Each plant will have a capacity of 3,000,000 gallons, at a cost of a few pence over 2s a gallon. This was revealed by Dr. R. W. Harman. Chief Chemist to the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, as an instance of how the chemical industries in Australia had expanded under the impetus of war. The production of power alcohol from wheat would be maintained after the war, he said. Spectacular developments in the production of plastics were also taking place.
