COMFORTS FOR TROOPS
MASTERTON WOMEN’S PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE. PAST MONTH’S ACTIVITIES. At the monthly meeting of the Masterton Women’s Patriotic Committee the secretary reported that the following knitted goods had been forwarded to Wellington:— 204 scarves, 492 mittens, 264 balaclavas, 72 pairs of socks, 20 sleeveless pullovers, 1 long-sleeved pullover and 12 scull caps. These articles comprised one month’s knitting by Wairarapa district and Eketahuna and Pahiatua helpers. Eighty pairs of mittens, 5 balaclavas and 8 scull caps were sent to Waiouru. The Townswomen’s Guild helped with the mittens which were made out of the tops of warm old socks. More old socks were wanted and could be left at the patriotic depot, Women’s Rest Room, Dixon Street. Two hundred hussifs were made and sent to Wellington this month. Small pieces of woollen material were needed for hussifs.
The committee wijl be packing its quarterly quota of parcels for men overseas next week. This district’s quota is 2010.
