WAIRARAPA R.S.A.

4 ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT .BUILDING UP RESERVES. WORK FOR SECOND N.Z.E.F. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Returned Services Association was held in Masterton last night. The president, Mr H. J. Brass, presided over a large and representative attendance of members. Mr Brass urged members to do their best to help the war effort, and referred to the need of maintaining the membership record. He said the association was pleased to be associated with and do all it could for the men of the Second N.Z.E.F. Referring to the financial position of the Association, Mr Brass said reserves were being built up to meet future demands. In the process of building up reserves no one would suffer, as no deserving case had ever been turned down. The Association had not been so active in connection with patriotic work as previously, as the funds this year had been raised by direct appeal. However, the Association had been called on, and he thanked all members for their assistance. Mr Brass thanked the secretary, the executive, branch committee, the quartermaster and staff, and all who had assisted the Association in any way. Mr A. Owen Jones suggested that any available funds could be invested in the Liberty Loan.

Mr Brass said the committee would give the matter immediate attention. The election of officers resulted: —' President, Mr H. J. Brass; vice-presi-dent, Mr F. Shearer; hon. treasurer, Mr L. S. Nicol; executive, Messrs J. GT Heasley (2nd N.Z.E.F.), S. G. Slater (2nd N.Z.E.F.), E. L. Nicholson, Sydney D. Smith,, H. G. Alexander and Jas. J. Andrew; auditor, Mr N. H. James. Mr H. G. Carter (Greytown) was unanimously elected a life member of the Association. Tributes were paid to Mr Carter’s services over a long' period of years.
