ESPERANTO

MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. There was a good attendance, including a new member, at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club, presided over by Mr E. J. Esler. The secretary reported having received a useful quantity of pamphlets and other literature from the New Zealand Esperanto Association. These were obtained principally for the information of interested enquirers who -wanted to know more of the nature of the international language and of the ideals behind it. An interesting report was received concerning a handsome gift made by Mr G. Jordon, of Christchurch, to the New Zealand Esperanto Association. Mr Jordon’s donation consisted of a collection of Esperanto literature, both prose and verse, including all the works of the founder of the language, Dr. L. L. Zamenhof. Arrangements had been made for this valuable collection to be suitably housed in the Turnbull Library in Wellington where it would form an interesting historical record of the progress of Esperanto, both in New Zealand and in the modern world. The meeting concluded in lighter vein with a vocal duet in Esperanto presented by Messrs E. J. Esler and W. J. Beresford.
