EKETAHUNA COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING. CR. CARRUTHERS RE-ELECTED-CHAIRMAN. (“Times-Age” SpecW-) At the annual meeting of the Eketahuna County Council, Councillor J. B. Carruthers were re-elected chairman 1 of the council for the ensuing twelve months. In moving the nomination, Councillor Richardson referred to the long service rendered to the council and ratepayers by Councillor Carrulhr ers, particularly in recent years when many extra calls were made on local bodies. Councillor J. P. Petersen seconded the nomination. By this election Councillor Carruthers is entering on his twenty-eighth year as chairman of the Eketahuna County Council. In returning thanks for his re-elec-tion, the chairman expressed his ap? predation of the co-operation and support of councillors over the past year and during the period he had been chairman. He also expressed appreciation of the work of the executive officers, particularly over the difficult periods in the past twelve months. All the councillors were present at the meeting, Councillor J. B. Carruthers presiding. In connection with earthquake repairs the Treasury advised that the Government would make available a subsidy of 25 per cent on all costs of chimney restoration in the Eketahuna County. Further assistance was also to be granted in the case of old age pensioners and in cases of hardship. The clerk reported that accounts had been completed on this basis and had been sent out to property owners. The Counties' Association advised the date of conference in July next. The chairfnan was appointed as delegate from the council. The clerk was granted leave to attend the county clerks’ conference, which is to be held at the same time. The council agreed to a continuation of the present system of allocation of heavy traffic fees amongst the Wairarapa local bodies. Instructions were issued foi- action to be taken against one farmer for allowing stock to stray on the road.
