NO INCREASE

IN AUSTRALIAN BUTTER RATION FIRM STAND BY FEDERAL PREMIER. BRITISH NEEDS EMPHASISED. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) CANBERRA, June 11. The Australian Government was determined not to increase the butter ration of half a pound wekly, said the Prime Minister, Mr Curtin. No concession would be given to special groups of persons. Mr Curtin was referring to strikes by miners and protests by other unions against the butter ration. “No matter how much butter production increases, nothing above 1 Boz. a head a week will be used in Australia,” he declared. “Any increase will go to theose people in Britain who are getting only 2oz. a week. They are our kith .and kin, fighting the same battle as we are. The coalminers and other hard workers of Britain have got on with far less butter than all Australians are now to receive.” A rationing order has been gazetted making it illegal for any Australian educational establishment to require students to wear clothing of any specified type. This means that school uniforms are abolished for the duration of the war.
