FEATHERSTON

COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING AT MARTINBOROUGH TODAY. — £llOO INVESTED IN LIBERTY LOAN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council was held at Martinborough today. There were present: Messrs A. B. Martin (chairman), J. A. McLeod, W. Cameron, Q. Donald, G. Gillies, L. J. Thompson, and R. W. Matthews. Leave of absence was granted Messrs R. Smith and J. C. Bidwill. It was decided to invest £llOO in the Third Liberty Loan. Mr Ben Roberts, M.P., acknowledged receipt of Mr Q. Donald’s name as nominee on the Wairarapa Rehabilitation Committee. Eleven ratepayers on the Papawai Road complained that two bulls were at large on the road. The council decided to take action in the matter. Accounts for £1846 were passed. The ranger reported having impounded 7 head of stock and registered 154 dogs. Personal. The engagement is announced of Lois Margaret, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Blaxland, of Palmerston North, to Thomas George, only son of Mrs and the late Mr P. Gain, of South Featherston. COSY THEATRE “POWDER TOWN.” “Powder Town” and “Eyes of the Underworld,” which will be shown tonight, arc dramas teeming with exciting situations. In the former picture, Victor McLaglen and June Havoc have the leading roles, and in the latter Lon Chaney and Richard Dix.
