| WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. THIRTEENTH BIRTHDAY IN AUGUST. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Alfredton Women’s Institute a new member ,was welcomed. It was decided to hold a dance during August to celebrate the Institute’s thirteenth birthday, proceeds to go to the Soldiers’ Fund. Each member offered a donation of ingredients for the birthday cake; Mrs Clarkson offered to bake it and Mrs Dickens to ice and decorate it. The cake will be raffled and the proceeds are to go towards the soldiers’ Christmas parcels fund. Six cases of foodstuffs were packed and sent to the A.N.A. Club in Wellington. The hostesses were Mesdames G. Napier and Clarkson. PATRIOTIC SOCIETY At the Patriotic Society’s “games evening” the winners at euchre were: —Ladies: Mrs Weston. Men: Messrs E. Seymour, T. Smith, E. Anderson and G .Godinagh. A competition for two mystery parcels realised £2 Os 9d. They were won by Messrs A. Hull and T. Smith. A competition (the prize for which was donated by Mr L. Algie) realised £1 10s, and was won by Miss Madge Seymour. The following goods were auctioned: —A case of mixed vegetables from Mr C. Leach, honey donated by Mr H. Percy, cake donated by Mrs Percy. Mr H. Percy gave a donation of £l. Two packs of playing cards were donated by Mr R. Seymour. The hostesses were Mesdames O. Walker, H. Burch and Yarrall. Knitting for Forces. The following are the names of those who sent in knitting for the forces during the month of May:—Mesdames R. Kebbell, G. Napier, Cooper Senr., L. Algie, Low, Harcombe, Seymour,. E. Henderson, Misses M. Godinagh, D. Godinagh and E. Napier. Personal Items. Mrs McAllister, of Wellington, has been the guest of Mrs Taverner. Mr Burch, Senr., and Mr A. Burch, are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Burch.
