MASTERTON Y.M.C.A.

MEETING OF DIRECTORS CLASSES WELL ATTENDED. RESIGNATION OF SECRETARY. The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. was held on Wednesday. It was reported that the boys’ classes were being particularly well attended, the membership being 45. Satisfactory arrangements were made for carrying on the girls’ and senior boys’ classes while the regular instructors were on leave. As there was room for a few more members in the girls’ classes, any further girls wishing to join should hand in their names to the secretary at once. Despite the fact that the rooms were being extensively used by service men, full attention is being given to the necessity for providing the utmost facilities for normal work. The House Committee reported that linoleum for the entrance hall had been purchased, and arrangements were in hand for its laying at an early date. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. Barnes for his generous assistance with orchestral music for the service men’s fortnightly social gatherings run by the Ladies’ Auxiliary. The president reported having received the resignation of the general secretary, Mr C. W. Gaze, and in accepting same the board placed on record its sincere appreciation of the keenness and enthusiasm with which Mr Gaze had carried out the arduous work of the Association since he assumed the duties of secretary. Steps were being taken to arrange for a suitable successor to Mr Gaze.

All reports showed that the Association’s facilities were being fully used, the work being carried out by the ladies forming a very prominent part of the activities. LADIES’ AUXILIARY. SATISFACTORY FINANCIAL REPORT. The monthly meeting of the Ladies' Auxiliary was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms yesterday, Mrs H E. Pither presiding over a large attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Rayner, Roberts, Gaze, Prescott, Diamond, Kilgour, Corskie, Mabson and Whittaker. The treasurer's report was considered satisfactory. A new member, Mrs J. Grey, was nominated. A presentation was made to Mr Gaze as a mark of appreciation of his services to the Auxiliary during his association with the Y.M.C.A and*wishing him success in his new sphere of work The next meeting is to be held on July 8. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Fly, Flaws and Henderson.
