CARTERTON
RETURNED SERVICES MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr F. L. Barr, presided over the annual meeting of the Carterton, branch of the Returned Services’ Association last evening. There was a very large attendance of members. The chairman said that members met in a brighter atmosphere than was the case twelve months ago. He referred in eulogistic terms to the excellent w:ork Mr A. T. Murray had carried out in the interests of the association. The chairman submitted a report of the year’s operations. Members stood in silence for a few moments' out of respect to the memory of comrades who had made the supreme sacrifice in the present war. The balance sheet, which was favourably commented on, showed a credit balance of £57 Os lid, as well as a sum on fixed deposit. The report and balonce sheet were adopted.
Fourteen nominations were received for the 10 seats on the committee and the election resulted in the return of Messrs F. »L. Barr, I. G. Blake, C. AChennells, J. Grant, G. S. George, W. A. Hart, A. T. Murray, A. G. Babbitts, H. J. Rathbone and F. Taplin. Mr C. A. Chennells was appointed delegate to the Wairarapa centre. A remit sent to the central executive by the Greytown branch to alter rule 6A providing for the election of the chairman to various branches to be appointed by the annual meeting and not by the incoming committee each year was favourably received, and the delegate to the centre was instructed to vote for it.
Messrs H. J. Brass and A. Prentice who had attended the N.Z.R.S.A. Conference in Wellington gave the meeting some interesting information concerning the business transacted.
Mr Prentice mentioned that the Wairarapa R.S.A. had a membership of 905, an increase of 43 over last year and was in 7th place in membership in New Zealand. He congratulated 'the Carterton branch upon its membership. It was a pleasure to work with Mr Rabbitts, the Carterton secretary. It was satisfactory to note that the Carterton branch had secured 108 single plots at the Clareville cemetery for Returned Services’ Association men.
Supper' was served at the close of the meeting.

The Carterton Borough Council has decided that all dogs found in the borough without properly registered collars shall be deemed to be unregistered, •and may be destroyed without further notice. The authorities have now decided to rigidly enforce this by-law. REGENT THEATRE “TORPEDO BOAT.” There will be a double feature programme tonight at the Regent Theatre. “Torpedo Boat” is a thrilling story of the sea and air with Richard Arlen and Jean Parker in the leading roles. “Forever Cherished” is an interesting drama dealing with a football coach and starring Pat O’Brien and Ronald Reagan.
