WEST SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE REPAIRS TO VICTORIA STREET BUILDING. PLAYING AREA IMPROVEMENTS. A meeting of the Masterton West School Committee was held last evening. The chairman, Mr R. S. Graham, presided. The chairman welcomed Mr Jestin, a new member appointed to the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Batty, Mr Jestin returned thanks. At the request of the committee the Wellington Education Board, it was stated, had promised to effect certain repairs and renovations to the Side School building and grounds in Victoria Street. The committee had also agreed to thin out a number of trees on the entrance boundary and plant a hedge.
The committee decided to contract price for the levelling aim mole draining of the West School playing area which at present was in an unsatisfactory condition. Various improvements on other portions of the area were also discussed and consideration was deferred for a subsequent., meeting when more information would be available.
The headmaster, Mr J. P. Farrell, reported a satisfactory attendance. The roll number was 351.
Mr Hesse, . Wellington Education Board’s supervisor of agriculture, had visited the school and had expressed much satisfaction with the progress made and the growth of plants in the plant museum. A promise was made to make available further quantities of shrubs for the museum and for the various school plots. The Department would, at an early date, fence off an area of the ground for a vegetable garden plot and would prepare the ground for planting. Accounts amounting to £22 19s 6d were passed. Leave of absence for three months was granted to the chairman, Mr Graham.
