Mr J. R. Kirk, Wellington, has been appointed honorary treasurer of the Royal Society of New Zealand in succession to Mr M. A. Eliott, Palmerston North, who has resigned. Mr A. Pirie, a steward of the Wellington Trotting Club, has been appointed to the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association in place of the late Mr F. W. Kelly. The engagement is announced of Miriam, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs C. C. Christensen, Cook Street, Waipukurau, to Robert Richard, only son of Mr and the late Mrs R. Leng, 53 Cornwall Street, Masterton. The resignation of Mr William Gilbert as secretary was received at a meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre. Mr Charles Ingram for some years secretary of the Wellington Bowling Club, has been appointed to the vacancy. On one occasion Mi- Ingram won the champion singles of New Zealand at the New Zealand Bowling Association’s annual tournament.

Miss K. Stocker, drama tutor, of Victoria University College, was entertained at luncheon yesterday by the Co-ordinating Committee of the Women’s Division and the Women’s Institutes, at the Women’s Division rooms, Masterton. Miss O. Wolters presided. The convenors of drama classes were among those present. Items were given by Mrs R. Miller (Kopuaranga) recitations, and by Mrs Spicer (Masterton) vocal solos.
