TIRAUMEA

RED CROSS SOCIETY INTERESTING ADDRESSES. (“Times- Age” Special.) Nurse Dorsett, Eketahuna, accompanied by Miss Pickett, of the Health Department, was present at a meeting of members of the local brancn of the Red Cross Society, there being a good attendance.

Nurse Dorsett gave her final lecture, dealing with home nursing. Her remarks were much appreciated. Nurse Dorsett said that she was pleased to learn that the Tiraumea branch was sending ten candidates to Masterton to attend lectures in home nursing and first aid. Miss Pickett addressed the moetin Lunch was served, after which Mrs Harman (president) thanked Nurse Dorsett for her address and for the assistance she had given the local branch. She asked Miss Dorsett to accept a gift of a hanging mirror from the members. Nurse Dorsett suitably replied. Arrangements were made in connection with candidates travelling to Masterton to attend lectures from June 16 to 30. The candidates will be Mesdames M. Robbie, R. Houlbrooke, G. Laing. Misses Z. Hart, J. Hart, R. Jewitt, E. Hansen, M. Wright, H. Duncan and N. Curtis. The secretary announced the xollowing list of articles sent to the Red Cross Society from materials supplied m May: —18 pairs socks, 11 pullovers, 7-1 dozen covers, 3 pairs pyjamas, 2 dressing gowns, bundle white linen. Two cases of wooden goods made by Phylip Raleigh were sent to the bazaar.

WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the local Women’s Division of the Farmers Union, there was a good attendance ol members. Mrs Harman presided. Mrs Harman gave a short report on the annual meeting of the Provincial Council held in Masterton. A letter was read stating that there would be no annual conference held this year. It was reported that six pairs of khaki socks had been sent to next-of-kin to go into prisoners of war parcels from the district. Two parcels were packed for overseas by Mrs Hay and Miss M. Wright. The competitions resulted as follows: —Six pikelets: Mrs Wallis 1, Mrs Harman, Senr.. 2. Buttonhole: Mrs R. Houlbrooke. Amusement competition: Miss Z. Hart. Wandering shilling: Miss M. Wright. The hostesses were Mrs Hay and Miss Wright. Personal Items. The friends of Mr J. Reed will regret to hear that he has again had to enterthe hospital in Pahiatua. Miss J. Hart has returned from Pahiatua. Miss E. Hansen, who has been visiting Eketahuna, has returned home. Mrs Woodley, Wellington, has been the guest of Mrs Olsen, Haunui.
