URGENT APPEAL
THIRD LIBERTY LOAN MASTERTON CAMPAIGN. MEETING OF LOCAL COMMITTEE. The urgency of the Third Liberty Loan was stressed by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, a member of the National Liberty Loan Committee, when he addressed members of the Master ion Liberty Loan Committee yesterday afternoon. The meeting was a preliminary one to consider arrangements for launching the appeal locality. Mr Jordan emphasised that the huge amount required, £35,000,000, would call for everyone to assist by ■investing as much as possible. The aim was to get 150,000 subscribers. He pointed out that the last loan found only about 35,000 supporters. There was thus a need for all their energy and powers of persuasion and the cause was surety worth the effort. Nothing short of personal and insistent appeal to the public individually and collectively would bring them to the goal. Success was a national necessity if they were to supply the needs of their magnificent service men throughout the theatres of war and to save from shipwreck the country's present economic system. The committee agreed to call a meeting of employers, so that the position might be placed before them for soliciting the support of employees. It was pointed out that Liberty Bonds of £lO and £1 could be purchased outright or on an instalment plan by groups of employees or increased deposits could be made in the National Savings Accounts. Mr Jordan undertook, with the permission of the managements, to speak on the loan at the Masterton picture theatres on Saturday night.
