AND THREE SMALL BRITISH CHILDREN AMONG PASSENGERS ON PLANE SHOT DOWN BY GERMANS. OVER BAY OF BISCAY. (Ev Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON. June 2. Passengers on the British Overseas Airways Douglas plane, believed to have been shot down by a German aircraft while on route from Lisbon to Foynes, included the actor, Leslie Howard. The British Overseas Airways Corporation statement said: "The Corporation regrets to announce that a civil aircraft, cn route from Lisbon to the United Kingdom, carrying 13 passengers and a crew of four, is overdue and presumed lost. The last message from the aircraft stated that it was being attacked by an enemy aircraft." A message from Lisbon says it is learned that the Douglas was shot down ever the Bay of Biscay. Among the passengers were three small British children. The Douglas left Lisbon at 9 a.m. yesterday.’ The last communication was received from the plane two hours later. Mr Howard arrived in Lisbon on May 27 on a lecturing tour under the auspices of the British Council.
