LADIES’ SOCIAL GUILD. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Methodist Ladies Social Guild was held in the Women’s classroom on Tuesday. Miss V. Jackson presided over a good attendance of members and led the members in prayer. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs Goodman; secretary, Mrs Prior; treasurer, Miss V. Jackson; tea hostess, Mrs Lindsay; pianist, Mrs Speight; convenor of social committee, Miss Ninnes; convenor or visiting committee, Mrs Judd. Mesdames Fly and Trevorrow were appointed to take charge of the bring and buy table at the July meeting.
Members who were willing to entertain service men were asked to notify the Rev. Goodman. It was arranged that a floral tribute be sent to Mrs Cocker from the members with their best wishes. Two pianoforte solos rendered by Mrs Watson were appreciated. During the afternoon Miss Jackson gave two short readings from the "Methodist Times,” one by Professor Basil Matthews, of Yale University on “The Gulf Between Nazism and Christianity” and the other - on the “Agony of Poland.”
The happy thought was given by Mrs Sleeman. During the afternoon the ladies were kept busy sewing i’oi - the Red Cross Society. Afternoon tea was served by the tea hostesses, Mesdames Daniell and Sleeman. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mesdames Watson, Daniell Sleeman, and Miss Jackson for their contributions towards the success of the afternoon.
