ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

NURSING DIVISION. A BUSY YEAR. A general meeting of the St. John Ambulance Nursing Division was held at the Municipal Hall, Masterton, yesterday. The report of the past year's activities stated, inter alia:—The number of members on the nursing divisional roll at the end of the year was 64. 1942 was another very busy year for the division, as the result of the increased activities due to the war. In the first aid, home nursing and hygiene classes, the enrolments were 250. Sixty-one members are trained voluntary and kitchen aids. Of this number, five are on active service overseas as voluntary aids, and 6 on home service duty. Several new appointments during the year have been made. Dr. Prior was appointed as divisional surgeon. Three members were appointed as ambulance officers. It was with regret that the resignation of Miss L. Whitehouse, lady superintendent, who for many years has supervised the division so capably and efficiently, was received. Miss D. Kemp was appointed lady superintendent, and was accorded a warm welcome by all members in her new position. Mrs H. W. Thompson as secretary tendered her resignation as divisional secretary, and Miss H. Bell was appointed to this position. Mrs E. McKenzie, who has been an active officer of the division for several years, has been transferred to the reserve list, and the division wishes to place on record its appreciation of her services.

The Nursing Division wishes to thank the following for their help and assistance throughout the year:—The doctors who gave the lectures and conducted the examinations: Miss Grant, matron of the Masterton Hospital: Miss Brown, sub-matron, and the Sisters and Nurses who assisted with lectures and examinations; the Boy Scouts who acted as models; the Borough Council for the use of the Lecture Room; Press; the Parents’ Association of the Wairarapa College for the use of the Assembly Hall for the annual inspection; and to all those who have given practical assistance to maintain the efficiency of the division throughout the year.
