WORLD DIET

POSSIBILITY OF GREAT IMPROVEMENT SEEN AT FOOD CONFERENCE. GOAL OF FREEDOM FROM WANT ATTAINABLE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. June 1. The United Nations food conference has drawn up a declaration which appears certain of acceptance, states a Hot Springs message. It expresses the belief that the “goal of freedom from want of food suitable for the health and strength of all peoples can be achieved,” and asserts that the food produced “can be made available to all people” under a programme of “full employment by all countries of enlarged industrial production, the absence of exploitation, increasing the flow of trade within and between countries, orderly management of domestic and international investment and currencies, and sustained internal and international economic equilibrium.”

A 15-point programme under which Governments could immediately improve their peoples' diet without awaiting the end of the war was recommended by the conference. The programme was submitted by one section of the conference based on the evidence of reports of delegates and nutrition experts from 44 countries.
