The Misses Morrison, Lansdowne, are staying in Wellington. Mrs Calder (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs A. M. Theed (Pongaroa). Miss Gray, “Fairburn,” Taratahi. has left on a visit to Wanganui and New Plymouth. The engagement is announced of Grace Ann, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Woodley, Featherston, to Ronald William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs D. W. Smith, Lower Hutt. Miss June Mackay, of the staff of the W.F.C.A., Ltd., Masterton, who has left to join the W.A.A.F., was farewelled by the office staff and presented with a leather writing case and wallet. Mr J. H. Cunningham made the presentation in an appropriate speech and Miss Mackay suitably replied.
The interment of the late Mrs H. Stears took place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday atfernoon, the officiating minister being the Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich, who conducted the service at the chapel and that at the graveside. Messrs E. Elliott, A. Macalister, R. Lennie and V. Stears were the pallbearers.
The public services of the late Mr S. G. Smith, a former Minister of the Crown, and the late Sir Alfred Ransom, member for Pahiatua and also a former Minister, were feelingly referred to in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, when motions of appreciation of their work and of sympathy with their relatives were passed on the motion of the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser.
The death has occurred at the hydroelectric power construction works, Cobb Valley, Nelson, of Mr lan .Grace, constructional engineer for Messrs Corry Wright & Salmon, Ltd.. The late Mr Grace was in partnership in Martinborough for many years with Mr Ferris Dale as an electrical engineer. Some years ago he left to take up an appointment with Messrs Corry Wright & Salmon, Ltd. For a period he was a member of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board’s staff. He is survived by a widow. There are no children.
The funeral of the late Mr H. G. Trass, of Mauriceville West, took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, there being a representative attendance of district settlers and others. The Rev J. M. Simpson conducted the service at the chapel and also officiated at the cemetery. Wreaths were sent by the Mauriceville West School Committee and children, Mauriceville District Sports Club, Mauriceville Croquet Club, directors of Mauriceville Dairy Co., staff of Mauriceville Dairy Co., Mauriceville Women’s Institute, the employees of the Waingawa Works, the sisters and staff of Glenwood Hospital, and many others from private sympathisers. The pall-bearers were Messrs W. J. Moore, S. Featherstone, R. Foster and E. Mackay. Mr Trass's youngest son, who was a member of the Second Echelon of the Second N.Z.E.F., was killed in the Libyan campaign.
