ABORTIVE ASSAULT
ON RUSSIAN DONETZ BRIDGEHEAD GERMANS HURLED BACK WITH HEAVY LOSSES. IN BATTLE LASTING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. LONDON, June 1. Tlie .Russians have hurled back another deterniined attack on their Lisichansk bridgehead in the Donetz basin. The Soviet position is a potential threat, to the German forces in the Donetz Lend. After a battle, lasting for several hours the Russians drove back the enemy with heavy Josses.
For the second day running, the Berlin radio reports fighting at a point 60 miles north of Smolensk.
