OBITUARY
MRS HAROLD STEARS. The death occurred yesterday in Wellington of Mrs Martha Stears, widow of the, late Mr Harold Stears, of Master ton. The late Mrs Stears, who was born in Essex, England, 67 years ago, came to New Zealand in 1920. During her residence in Masterton she was a member of St Matthew’s Choir. She had been in bad health for some time past. Her husband predeceased her six years ago and she is survived by one son and one daughter, Mrs A. Macalister, Masterton.
The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., following a service at 1.45 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
MR HERBERT GEORGE TRASS. An old and respected resident of Mauriceville West, Mr Herbert George Trass, passed away suddenly at his residence last evening. Born at Nelsbn 69 years ago, he came to. the Wairarapa at the early age of three years and was engaged in farming pursuits. He had resided in Mauriceville for the past 25 years. Mr Trass was chairman of the Mauriceville West School Committee for the past 20 years and was a director of the Mauriceville Dairy Company and a member of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Union. He was a keen sportsman and shooter and about 40 years ago conducted a boxing school in Masterton.
A widow, four sons and five daughters are left to mourn their loss. The daughters are Mesdames J. W. Moore (Palmerston North), S. Featherstone (Lower Hutt), I. McKay (Tinui), P. Foster and Miss M. Trass (Mauriceville West), and the sons are Messrs V. (Training Farm, Penrose), H. G. (Mauriceville), C. T. (Kopuaranga) and H. E. Trass (East Taratahi).
The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., following a service at 3 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery,
