FIGHTING THOUSAND JAPANESE KILLED. INTENSE CONFLICT OPPOSITE ICHANG. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) CHUNGKING, May 30. The Chinese have recaptured Yuaungkwan and killed a thousand Japanese in the operation, states a Chungking communique. The Chinese are closely pursuing enemy remnants, which are retreating north-eastwards towards Niekchiaho seven miles south of the Yangtse. The communique adds that Chinese forces operating in the Kingman-Tangyang-Ichang sector, on the north shore of the Yangtse, have gained ground in fighting of increasing intensity on heights overlooking the river opposite Ichang. The Tokio official radio claims that Japanese forces west of lake Tungting have occupied Taiyungtang, Sinen (headquarters of the Chinese 161st. division) and Tangyang, near Ichang. ■
