Women’s Division Shop Day. The Masterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will hold a shop day on Wednesday in the Rest Rooms, Masterton, from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plants will be on sale, and members are invited to bring in books for the Victory Book Drive and to leave contributions at the Y.M.C.A.

Leaving Age. “» The New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation and manufacturers generally welcome the announcement of proposals for the raising of the school leaving age, says the secretary of the Federation, Mr D. I. Macdonald. The matter was discussed by the council of the federation, and it was considered that the leaving age should be at least 15 years.

Death from Injuries. An elderly woman suffered injuries from which she later died, and her small granddaughter was seriously hurt, as the result of their being knocked down by a motor lorry in Remuera Road, Auckland, on Friday afternoon. They were Mrs Franzikg Hubr.er, widow, aged 70, and Judith Tana Hubner, aged four and a half, daughter of Mr Phillip Hubner.

Clothing Coupons. The 26 clothing coupons on page five of the second series ration book may be used at any time from June 1 onward, according to an announcement made at the week-end by the Food and Rationing Controller, Mr J. E. Thomas. These coupons have the same value as the “M” and “O” coupons in the old books. Mr Thomas also announced that a special handbook had been published giving full details of the clothing rationing scheme and including schedules of coupon values and interpretations condensed into a form for handy reference. A copy of this publication is being issued to every licensed trader.

Gray have been posted as air crew. Corporal P. S. Alexander has resigned, and Cadet J. Gray has been enrolled. The following cadets are mobilised: —Corporals D..G. Shouler, L. O. Jones and D. L. Ward, Cadets D. McKenzie, D. B. Gilbert, I. R. Cardno, D. B. Miller and D. H. S. Irwin.
