LETTER FROM POPE

OPPOSITION TO EVIL FORCES. ENJOINED ON CATHOLICS IN GERMANY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, May 28. The Vatican radio says a German broadcast last night quoted a letter from the Pope to German bishops in which the Pope admonished German Catholics to oppose-‘evil forces whenever possible.” The letter went on: “We know the strength of your power and of faithful Germans, priests and laymen, who prefer to suffer the worst rather than abandon Christ. On you faithful Germans centuries of Christians are looking down, and later centuries will thank you for your steadfastness. The Pope added that during his time as a bishop in Germany he learned to appreciate and love the German people. “I therefore think it deplorable that the present aim is to rob the German nation of all good qualities, namely, to destroy everything the Church has given Germany.”
