PATRIOTIC FUNDS

CONTRIBUTION FROM WAIRARAPA ZONE. TOTAL NOW OVER £20,000. Over £20,000 has so far been received in the Wairarapa zone towards the zone quota of £26,703 for the Provincial Patriotic Fund, states the hon treasurer, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith. Some misunderstanding about the amount raised, Mr OHara Smith states, has arisen through the publication in a Wellington paper yesterday of a statement submitted by Mr B. O. Peterson, hon treasurer of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council, setting out the figure raised in the Wairarapa zone up to April 30 as only £1730. A remittance of £14,453 was despatched to him, however, just after this date, and a further £4OOO is now in hand to be remitted in the course of a few days, making a total of over £20,000.
