COUNTY LOANS

MANY FALLING DUE WITHIN NEXT TEN YEARS. The net public debt of the Masterton County Council at March, 1943, was £107,831, as against £113,440 at the corresponding date last year. Loans which matured during the past year totalled £3,199. In his annual report, Mr J. C. D. Mackley, County Clerk, stated: “It is of interest to record at this juncture that within the next ten years, of the amount of loans still owing at this date, £107,831, the sum of £82,000 will have been repaid, no less than forty loans, out of a total of 45, maturing in that period. The annual charges on the indebtedness of the county at March 31 was £7,627, as compared with £7,674 in the previous year.”
